Instrument every full-content read channel for pages with classification = vs_nfd (ADR 0023, variant A): SPA state fetch and read rendering, public JSON content, no-JS shell, expanded embeds, public API GET (incl. the MCP read_page path and write echoes), attachment download under the #212 effective classification, all export shapes (markdown, pond ZIP, account data export, queued docx/odt/pdf at enqueue), and collab-token issuance as the api-side proxy for the WS join. Events land in the new read_events table (no FKs — evidence survives page purges and hard user deletions) with actor, session key (session:/token:/job:/anon), page, pond, channel and the classification at read time. Recording failures are NOT swallowed: a failed write aborts the read (hard failure, the deliberate contrast to AuditService — decision recorded in ADR 0023 and security.md §Logging, together with the recorded residuals: content fragments and feeds). One e2e test per channel proves both the event and its absence for unclassified pages, plus the hard-failure semantics. Refs #222. Hand-rolled middleware instead of helmet: the header set is small enough to own, every value is a deliberate decision, and the api gains no transitive dependency. HSTS (no includeSubDomains — the api cannot speak for sibling subdomains), nosniff, Referrer-Policy no-referrer, X-Frame-Options SAMEORIGIN (not DENY: the plugin sandbox frame embeds same-origin and its CSP has no frame-ancestors, so this header governs), and a minimal deny-all Permissions-Policy. CORS grants no foreign origin anything; only the APP_BASE_URL origin is ever echoed (where browsers do not consult CORS anyway), with Vary: Origin on every response. No preflight handling — same-origin requests never preflight, and cross-origin API access is cookie-less by design (PAT/Bearer). Wired via the AppModule MiddlewareConsumer so createTestApp boots the identical middleware. Fences: security-headers.e2e.test.ts (header set, foreign origin gets no ACAO) and a frame assertion in plugins.e2e.db.test.ts (framing stays possible). Rationale table in security.md. Chosen path: an instance master switch following the api.enabled/ mcp.enabled pattern — while off, both feed routes AND the feed-token management answer 404 (existence hidden). Default ON: feeds predate the switch, existing instances and their subscribed readers keep working; the VS-NfD reference configuration (#227) turns it off. Admin UI gets the toggle next to the API/MCP switches (i18n de+en). Moving the token out of the query string is documented as rejected: a path segment lands in the same proxy and request logs, and feed readers cannot send headers — that is why the credential is in the URL at all. What DID leak was our own request log (pino logs req.url): the req serializer now masks ?token= values (common/mask-token-param.ts), so no code path logs the credential. Semantics changed from the issue during planning (documented there, comment 1192): favorites are PERSONAL per user, not pond-wide — the sys-fav label approach is dropped entirely. Storage is a page_favorites table (userId+pageId, FK cascade); PUT/DELETE /pages/:id/favorite toggles idempotently and needs read access only (#60 404 semantics — a star is a note-to-self, not a page modification), GET /ponds/:id/favorites lists the account's stars sliced to still-readable pages. Trashed pages keep their rows, so restore keeps the star; purge cascades it away. Web: one shared ['favorites', pondId] query feeds the TopBar star (between labels and history, golden when set), the golden tree icons in the sidebar, and a latching "Favorites" filter button next to the view switch that narrows either view (combinable with the label filter). No public-API/MCP exposure — with the label approach gone, that parity is no longer free; favorites stay UI-only for now. New favorites e2e pack (star toggle, golden icon, filter, per-user isolation) wired into CI; DB suite covers the round-trip, read gating, and the trash/restore/purge lifecycle. The public home page (/) now renders Markdown the Site Admin stores in the new home.content instance setting, through the same sanitizing pipeline as the legal pages; empty falls back to the built-in welcome text. New public GET /home/content, an Admin → Settings editor with live preview, and an e2e test covering default/configured/escaping/ admin-only. AI clients talk to the instance directly at /api/mcp — under the /api/ path (deviation from the issue's literal /mcp) so every existing reverse proxy already routes it; no deployment changes anywhere. - Transport: official @modelcontextprotocol/sdk server, STATELESS — each POST builds a fresh server+transport pair, no session store, replicas stay trivial; GET/DELETE answer 405. Auth per PAT bearer (#104 tokens), per-token rate limit (429 + Retry-After). - Own switches, independent of REST: instance mcp.enabled (admin settings, default off; off = 404, feature invisible) + pond setting mcpEnabled (pond-settings toggle, default off) — pinned independent in both directions by tests. - Tools (thin wrappers over the #104 services, same permission gates, audit-logged writes): list_ponds, list_pages, read_page, search, create_page, update_page (replace semantics through the collab-owned restore path — open editors converge), add_comment, list_labels, set_page_labels (exact replace), export_pond (link to the REST ZIP). Tool errors carry the api error codes; results carry stable slugs/ids. MCP resources stay the documented stage-2 stretch goal. - Deliberately on the SDK's low-level Server API with a hand-written tool table (mcp-tools.ts): the typed registerTool generics drove tsc out of memory in a program this size; manual Zod validation keeps the wire behavior explicit. - PublicApiService exposure filtering parameterized ('api' | 'mcp', shared pondFeatureEnabled helper) — one implementation, two switches. - Docs: "Connect Claude Code / MCP clients" section in public-api.md (claude mcp add one-liner + mcp-remote bridge for stdio clients). Verification: 8-test e2e pack driving the real MCP SDK client over Streamable HTTP against a listening api (initialize + tools/list, switch independence in both directions, anonymous/garbage 401, opt-in 404 semantics, page roundtrip incl. restore-NOTIFY, labels/comments, read scope blocked from writes with scope_required); live check through the web proxy against the seeded stack (tools list, create, read, update, search — LIVE CHECK PASSED); full api suite 61/61 files green. Token-authenticated machine access at /api/public/v1 — the foundation for the built-in MCP endpoint (#105). Personal access tokens: - api_tokens table (SHA-256 hash, scope read|write, optional pond restriction, expiry, revocation, throttled last-used) + migration; secrets are dt_pat_<random>, shown exactly once - lifecycle endpoints under /users/me/api-tokens (session-only — a leaked token can never mint more tokens) with audit entries api.token_created/api.token_revoked - settings UI section (create with scope/expiry/pond restriction, one-time reveal with copy, list with status + revoke), de+en Activation (404 semantics per #60 on both levels): - instance setting api.enabled (default off, admin settings switch) - pond setting apiEnabled (default off, pond settings toggle; the PondsService settings-merge learned the key — the #92 lesson) Surface (/api/public/v1, excluded from the SPA's global prefix): - me, ponds, pages (list/read as Markdown+HTML, create from Markdown via the shared pipeline, PATCH title/content, DELETE to trash), search (permission-filtered + narrowed to exposed ponds, highlights as **…**), markdown ZIP export, labels (tree, create/rename/recolour/move/delete, assign/unassign), comments (threads, create, resolve/reopen) - content replacement travels the collab-owned document path: the new state lands as a MANUAL version "API update", then the established restore NOTIFY applies it — open editors converge, history stays append-only, no second lineage (VersionsService.replaceContent) - hand-maintained OpenAPI 3.1 document at /openapi.json, pinned to the controller by a route-coverage test in both directions Enforcement: - PublicApiGuard: instance switch → bearer PAT auth (request.user is the token's user) → per-token rate limit (429 + Retry-After) → scope (403 scope_required) → pond opt-in + token restriction - the shared PermissionGuard then applies the unchanged permission model; PageParamSource gained pondSlugParam for the slug+slug routes - no cookies anywhere → no CSRF surface (pinned by a hostile-Origin test) - every write audit-logged as api.write with the token attributed Tests/verification: - 12-test e2e pack: lifecycle, switches, permission matrix (reader/editor/outsider × scopes), restriction, page roundtrip incl. restore-NOTIFY assertion, labels, comments incl. policy, search narrowing, ZIP export, rate limit; full api suite 60/60 green (quota fixture via per-user override — never the instance default) - new collab-pack test proves an open editor converges onto an API content replacement (green against a local seeded stack) - UI smoke against the built SPA: token create/reveal/revoke, pond opt-in persists, admin switch persists (10/10) - docs/self-hosting/public-api.md + README link Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> Claude-Session: https://claude.ai/code/session_01EwZ4jR4KFAPvpjWevfUGX1 |

Off-host backups for every self-hoster, configured entirely in the admin UI — supersedes the host-specific mirror plan behind #84. shared: - webdav.ts (new package entry like token-crypto): minimal WebDAV client with basic auth — PROPFIND (tolerant multistatus parser), MKCOL, PUT (streamed), GET, DELETE; Nextcloud DAV path derived from the plain server URL, explicit DAV bases pass through - backup-status.ts: additive remote-upload status in status.json, the restore-status.json contract (running/succeeded/failed + staleness bound), the backup_command/backup_maintenance NOTIFY channels, and the one-bundle-per-set naming (dorfteich-backup-<id>.tar.gz) - backup-set.ts moved here from apps/backup (api lists local sets) backup sidecar: - reads the backup.* instance settings directly from the database (admin changes apply next run; local retention row overrides the env) and the app password from the secret store - after each successful set: bundle dump + files archive + manifest into ONE self-contained tar.gz, upload via WebDAV per schedule (off/daily/weekly; manual runs always upload), prune remote bundles — never the newest — and record the outcome in status.json; upload failures alert via a new backupUploadFailed mail (de+en) - command listener on backup_command (run / restore) with a serial queue against the nightly timer - restore orchestrator: restore-status.json → maintenance NOTIFY → grace → (remote: download + manifest-verify bundle) → terminate other DB connections → shared perform-restore path (same code as restore.sh) → final status + maintenance exit api: - MaintenanceGuard (global, registered before the setup gate): 503 maintenance_mode while restore-status says running; health endpoints and the new public GET /backup/restore-status stay exempt; a stale running state (crashed sidecar) unblocks after 30 min - MaintenanceStateService watches the file and restarts the api after a successful restore (fresh caches, migrate-on-start for older dumps); main.ts refuses to touch the database while a restore runs — a container restarting mid-restore must not race pg_restore with migrate deploy - worker sweeps (conversion, mail outbox, scheduler) catch transient database failures instead of dying on an unhandled rejection — the restore's connection termination crashed the api in verification - backup admin endpoints under /admin/system/backup: settings (live connection test before save, password write-only into the secret store), nextcloud/test, sets (local via the ro backups mount + remote via WebDAV), run + restore (type-to-confirm backstop, source validation) — commands travel as NOTIFY payloads; audit actions backup.settings_changed/run_triggered/restore_requested - readyz: new warning-level backup_remote check while a target is configured (26 h daily / 170 h weekly bound) collab: - maintenance listener: on enter, persist + close every live session and refuse new connections until exit (failsafe timeout 30 min) — no in-memory document may write pre-restore content back afterwards web: - Admin → System backup section: status card with remote facts and a "Back up now" button, the Nextcloud settings form with test button, and the restore picker (local + remote sets, type-to-confirm) - global maintenance screen: any 503 maintenance_mode flips the SPA to a status page polling the exempt endpoint, reloading when the instance returns Verified end-to-end against a live stack (fresh DB, native api + sidecar, fake WebDAV server): configure → test → manual backup → bundle upload → readyz/sets/status surfaces → remote restore with maintenance gate, marker rollback and api restart; suites: shared 21, backup 9, collab 11, api 58 files green, lint + i18n:check + typecheck clean. New notifications table (payload denormalized for join-free rendering; mailed_at already prepares the #95 digests). Generation fans page events out to page and pond watchers, excluding the actors, and re-checks page read permission per watcher at delivery time — a revoked watcher gets nothing. Sources: named version snapshots (api), new comments (api), and the collab server's automatic session-close snapshots — announced over a new pg NOTIFY channel (the reverse of the established api→collab bus) consumed by a dedicated LISTEN client in the api, since the collab server has no permission resolution of its own. API: paginated list (unread first via nulls-first ordering), mark read, mark all read. UI: bell with unread badge in the top bar (30 s polling, no push in v1) and a dropdown whose entries navigate and mark themselves read; comment notifications deep-link with ?comments=1, which now opens the comments panel on load. New watches table (polymorphic target, unique per user+target; page purge
removes its rows via the trash service, and the list endpoint drops
targets the user can no longer read). Endpoints: idempotent PUT/DELETE
/watches/{page|pond}/:id gated by read access (404 hides the target),
GET state for the header toggles, and GET /users/me/watches resolving
names and links. Auto-watch hooks: creating a page and commenting
subscribe the actor, each behind a new user preference
(autoWatchOwnPages / autoWatchOnComment, default on) editable via the
profile PATCH and surfaced as checkboxes in the settings. UI: watch
toggle on the page header and the pond settings header, watch list with
unwatch in the account settings; new watches i18n namespace (de+en).

New comments table (thread via parent_id to the root, optional document anchor on roots, resolved_at/by; page purge cascades, trash hides) with a CommentsService enforcing the permission model: reading follows page read, writing follows the new pond setting commentPolicy (readers | editors) — 404 hides unreadable pages, 403 marks a failed write policy. Endpoints: threaded list per page with an open/resolved filter (resolved threads arrive collapsed by default), create (root or reply — replies attach to roots only and carry no anchor), edit own, delete own (roots with replies are admin-only, cascade), resolve/unresolve on roots for everyone who may comment. Bodies are Markdown rendered through the shared sanitizing pipeline; smuggled markup arrives as escaped text (fixture test). The UI lands with #92. New /admin/system panel (operations.md §Maintenance jobs): the maintenance job list shows every registered job with truthful last-run data (new Job.lastDurationMs recorded by the scheduler) and a manual trigger that respects the run-mutex and is itself audit-logged; a backup card mirrors the sidecar's status.json including the freshness verdict; an audit-log viewer filters by actor, action, and time range with pagination; and a storage overview lists the largest ponds. Auth events and admin actions (grants, members, user/quota admin, plugins, settings, setup) now land in a new audit_log table through a central AuditService — which keeps emitting the established stdout log line — while content activity stays log-only by design. All endpoints are Site-Admin-only; covered by API DB tests and a Playwright pack in CI. Imprint and privacy policy are two new Markdown instance settings (legal.imprint, legal.privacyPolicy), edited by Site Admins in a new "Legal pages" admin section with a toggleable rendered preview. The preview uses the same shared pipeline the server renders with (markdown → schema doc → escaped HTML), so stored markup can never smuggle script to visitors. The pages render publicly at /legal/imprint and /legal/privacy — as an SPA route plus, like #56, a self-contained server-rendered HTML document under /api/v1/legal/:kind. The endpoints are setup-exempt: legal information stays reachable even while the first-run wizard is pending. Unconfigured pages show a localized notice instead of 404ing, and Site Admins additionally get a warning banner linking to the settings. A new footer with both links appears on every SPA view (editor, auth screens, public pages) and in the server-rendered documents, whose shared shell moved to public/html-shell.ts and now renders its chrome in the instance default locale (ADR 0012). docs/self-hosting/legal-template.md ships imprint and privacy-policy templates in English and German whose sections mirror Dorfteich's actual processing activities (accounts, sessions, rate-limit IPs, proxy logs, transactional mail, content, export, deletion, no third-party requests), with a review checklist tied to security.md §Privacy. New `legal` i18n namespace (de+en); api and web e2e coverage including a new CI legal pack (footer navigation, notice vs. admin banner, and the admin form publishing a text end to end). When the api runs against a database without the setup.completedAt marker, a global SetupGuard answers every non-exempt route with 503 setup_required; only /setup/*, health probes, and the session routes stay reachable. The wizard steps (POST /setup/admin|instance|smtp| registration|complete) write straight to their production homes; the Site Admin step signs its creator in, later steps require that session. Completing sets the marker and locks every step permanently (410, also across restarts, and not reopenable via PATCH /admin/settings). SMTP entered in the wizard is verified with a live delivery test first (failure blocks the step with the transport error as detail) and then persisted to the new env-backed secret store: a mode-600 dotenv file on the new `secrets` volume (SECRETS_FILE). Explicit container env always wins over the store; empty compose-passed strings count as unset. The mail transport now resolves lazily through SmtpConfigService so wizard changes apply without a restart. SETUP_ADMIN_* env pre-seeds the whole wizard at boot for automated deploys; a backfill migration marks instances that already have a Site Admin as completed, and seed/vitest global-setup do the same for fixture databases. The setup e2e suite provisions its own fresh database (CREATE DATABASE + migrate deploy) per run. Backend for installing plugin ZIPs (ADR 0008, plugin-architecture.md §Lifecycle, security.md §Plugins). Consumes the #70 SDK for validation. - Schema: `plugins` (id, name, version, apiVersion, kind, mode, manifest jsonb, removedAt soft-delete) + `pond_plugins` (per-pond activation) + `PluginInstanceMode` enum; migration 20260710130000_plugins. - `PluginPackageService`: pure, stateless ZIP → validated package via fflate — structure check, manifest validation (SDK), apiVersion gate, kind/bundle/styles rules, CSS sanitation (no @import / external url() / expression()), zip-slip and unpacked-size guards. Each failure carries a stable PluginErrorCode; manifest issues travel as ApiError details. - `PluginStorageService`: on-disk layout `<PLUGINS_DIR>/<id>/<version>/`; atomic writeVersion (staging dir + rename, no 404 window mid-update), removeVersion/removePlugin, traversal-safe asset resolution, dropzone + quarantine dirs. - `PluginsService`: install/update (update only to a strictly higher version, preserving the admin's instance mode; files land before the metadata pointer flips) / uninstall (refused while required; soft-delete + files removed + pond activations dropped) / list / get. - `POST/GET/DELETE /admin/plugins` (SiteAdminGuard, multer memory upload), error→HTTP-status mapping. Public version-pinned static serving at `GET /plugins/:id/:version/*rest` with immutable cache + nosniff, only for the installed current version. - `PluginWatcherService`: watches `<PLUGINS_DIR>/_dropzone/`, runs the same validation, installs valid drops and quarantines invalid ones with the error logged; inert under NODE_ENV=test (tests drive processDropped). - SDK: `compareVersions`/`isHigherVersion`. shared: `PluginView`, `PluginInstanceMode`, `PLUGIN_ERROR_CODES`, `PLUGINS_DIR` env, plugin error i18n (de+en). Compose: `plugins` volume + `PLUGINS_DIR`. - Tests: package unit test (valid + each invalid class) and an e2e DB test (GUI install + immutable serving, non-admin 403, invalid-manifest details, dropzone install + quarantine, atomic higher-only update, required-guarded uninstall that removes files and tombstones metadata). Import/export conversions run asynchronously against an internal pandoc-server sidecar with limits and graceful failure (ADR 0009). This is the plumbing; the import (#63) and export (#65) features enqueue jobs onto it. Sidecar & config: - pandoc/core:3.6 in HTTP server mode added to the Compose stack, internal network only, with a wget healthcheck on /version; the api depends on it healthy and reaches it via the new PANDOC_URL env (default http://pandoc:3030). - readyz gains a warning-level `converter` check: an unreachable sidecar degrades import/export but never flips the instance to unready (new `warn` status on ReadinessCheck). Conversion flow (apps/api/src/import-export/): - ConversionJob table (per-request work queue, distinct from the name-keyed maintenance Job table): owner, formats, input/result bytes, status, attempts, lockedAt. Migration + owner cascade. - PandocConverter (abstract) + PandocServerConverter: POST / with {text, from,to,standalone}; binary input formats (docx/odt/…) are base64-encoded in `text`; 60 s AbortController timeout; input/output size caps. Failures map to distinct localized codes — converter_unavailable / converter_timeout (retryable) and conversion_failed (final). - ConversionWorker: claims one job at a time with `FOR UPDATE SKIP LOCKED` (safe against overlapping sweeps and a second process), recovers a stale RUNNING lock, retries transient failures up to 3 attempts then fails. A 2 s sweep plus wake-on-enqueue means a queued job survives an API restart. - ConversionJobService.enqueue (size-limited) + owner-scoped GET /jobs/:id (poll) and GET /jobs/:id/result (stream the output); a foreign/unknown id is 404. ConversionJobView in @dorfteich/shared. Tests: - conversion-job.e2e.db.test.ts (fake converter injected via a new createTestApp override hook): enqueue→convert→poll→result; foreign/unknown job 404; a persisted PENDING job picked up by a fresh app's worker (restart survival); sidecar-down fails after 3 retries while the API stays healthy. - pandoc.converter.test.ts: success, non-200→conversion_failed, refused→ converter_unavailable, and a delay-injecting server→converter_timeout. - Verified locally against a real pandoc/core:3.6 container: markdown→html, markdown→docx (valid PK/OOXML bytes), and a docx→markdown round-trip. Local: typecheck, lint, i18n:check, build all green; api 193 tests (9 new), shared 121, web 50. Anonymous visitors read what `public` grants allow, via the SPA and a server-rendered HTML endpoint for crawlers / PDF export (ADR 0005/0009). - api `public/`: `GET /public/:pondSlug/:pageSlug` returns a self-contained HTML document (content cache + minimal chrome + canonical link, no session-dependent content), and `…/content` returns JSON for the SPA. Both are `@Public()` and resolve the `public` subject through the shared resolver (PermissionService) — denied or missing → 404, so non-public pages never reveal their existence (security.md). Cached image nodes (`data-file-id`) are resolved to `/api/v1/media/:fileId` for the static render. - media: `GET /media/:fileId` is `@Public()` too, so embedded images on a public page stream to anonymous visitors; the attachment guard still gates on the `public` grant (non-public → 404). - web: a lightweight read-only `PublicPageView` at `/public/:pondSlug/:pageSlug` (outside the auth guard) renders the server HTML — deliberately without importing the collaborative editor, so anonymous readers load no editor bundle. New `public` i18n namespace (de+en). - tests: `public.e2e.db.test.ts` (HTML + JSON served for a public page; a non-public page never resolves; removing the grant 404s both) and a browser `public` pack (anonymous reads a public page and its image via the SPA; a non-public page shows "not found") with its own CI step. Pond Admins manage who participates in a pond, by role, with editor/reader seat quotas — the member-facing layer over the grant model (#51/#52). - shared: `MemberView`/`PondMembersView` + add/change-role schemas (`members.ts`), a `members` i18n namespace (de+en), and member error codes. - api `members/`: a member-centric API over pond-scope user grants — `GET /ponds/:id/members` (any member, for transparency: list grouped by effective role + seat usage + `canManage`), `POST` (add by exact username or e-mail — no directory browsing), `PATCH :userId` (change role), `DELETE :userId` (remove), all Pond-Admin-gated by the guard. Editor/reader seats are enforced against `editors_per_pond`/`readers_per_pond` (#22) inside a per-pond advisory-locked transaction so counts cannot race; the owner's membership is protected, personal ponds refuse a second admin (shared grant rule), and the last Pond Admin cannot be dropped. Every change invalidates the pond permission cache and fires the access NOTIFY (#39/#53). - web `members/`: `MemberManager` in Pond Settings — list grouped by role with a search filter and seat usage, add-by-identifier form (disabled with a localized explanation when the chosen role's seats are full), per-member role change and remove; read-only for non-admins; the personal-pond rule is surfaced. There is no invitation flow (v1): adding is immediate, and the copy says so. - tests: `members.e2e.db.test.ts` (add/change/remove, seat exhaustion, personal-pond and owner rules, read-only transparency, last-admin) and a `members` browser pack (immediate second-browser access, quota disables the add action, non-admin read-only) with its own CI step. Every route now declares its access rule explicitly and is enforced through the shared resolution algorithm (permissions.md): - PermissionGuard + decorators (@RequiresPondRole, @RequiresPagePermission, @RequiresAttachmentPermission, @AuthenticatedOnly) applied to every route; a route-enumeration test proves full coverage alongside @Public()/Site-Admin-guarded routes. - 404/403 policy (documented in README conventions): denied reads answer 404 (existence hiding), denied writes on readable things answer 403; trash views need write capability (ADR 0013). - PermissionService resolves page/pond questions via the shared resolver, with an in-process pond-context cache (grants + label parents) that is invalidated on every grant/label-tree change and TTL-bounded as a multi-process safety net. Grant changes also fire pond_access_changed for collab revalidation (#39/#53). - shared: pond-scope resolution (hasPondRole, canSeePond) next to the page resolver; grant wire schemas + GrantView. - Owner Pond-Admin grants: migration backfill for all existing ponds, created transactionally with every new pond (shared + personal + seed). - Grant CRUD under /ponds/:id/grants (pond_admin-gated) with structural and referential validation, last-admin protection, audit logs. - InterimAccessService deleted; page lists, search, backlinks, phantom links, and trash listings are filtered per page through the resolver; collab tokens are now truly ro for readers. - Fixture-matrix e2e (reader/editor/pond admin/foreign, label-deny, authenticated-subject, revoke-then-immediate-deny cache test). The heart of the security model: one algorithm, implemented once, for API, collab, and UI (permissions.md — authoritative). - shared `permissions/`: pure resolution (`resolvePageCapability`) exactly per permissions.md — specificity page > label (incl. ancestor labels) > pond, deny wins within a level, default-closed, Site Admin bypass — plus the trash rule (`canAccessPage` / `canAccessTrashedPage`, ADR 0013). `grantValidationError` enforces the structural constraints. Documented, I/O-free signatures for API/collab reuse. - prisma: `RoleGrant` (+ grant enums) per data-model.md, unique on (pond, subject, role, scope); migration adds a CHECK backstop that a POND_ADMIN grant is pond-scope + user-subject. - api `grants/`: `GrantsService.createGrant` validates before insert (structural + no extra admin on a personal pond), rejects duplicates; `grantsForPond` returns the shared resolver model (what #52/#53 consume); enum mappers between the DB and the shared model. Interim "who may manage grants" stays until #52. - tests: exhaustive table-driven resolver suite — every worked example from permissions.md §Resolution, edge cases (multi-label deny-wins, ancestor inheritance, anonymous/public, most-specific-allow-beats-less-specific-deny, trash) and a property test (a less-specific grant never overrides a more-specific decision); validation unit tests; grants db test proving write-time rejection of invalid grants. - i18n: grant error codes (de + en). Full-text search behind a swappable interface (ADR 0010).
- prisma: `page_content_cache.search_vector tsvector` (Unsupported column);
migration adds it plus a GIN index (raw SQL — the index is a production
perf optimization; correctness holds without it, so schema-pushed test DBs
work unchanged).
- shared: `normalizeForSearch` (NFKD + strip diacritics + lowercase) folds
both the indexed text and the query, so 'Baume' finds 'Bäume' without the
Postgres `unaccent` extension; search query schema + result view + highlight
sentinels.
- api search module:
- abstract `SearchProvider` (DI token: indexPage / removePage / search /
reindexAll) so an external engine can replace the binding — a fake proves
the seam in a test.
- `PostgresSearchProvider`: weighted vector (title A, labels B, body C),
`websearch_to_tsquery`, `ts_headline` snippets, results filtered to the
ponds the user may read; `GET /search?q=&pondId=&labels=`.
- `search:reindex` CLI (rebuilds from the content cache, idempotent).
- reindex hooks: page create/rename (title) and label assign/unassign/
rename/delete (labels are weight-B).
- collab: the persistence hook maintains `search_vector` in the same
transaction as the content cache (same weighting, normalized).
- tests: shared normalize/schema; api db (title ranks above body, highlight,
diacritic-insensitive match, permission filter, idempotent reindex) and the
fake-provider DI test; collab persistence already covers the write path.

Maintain a server-side `page_links` index on every content change so
backlinks and missing-target ("phantom") links can be queried.
- prisma: `PageLink` (from_page_id, nullable to_page_id, target_slug;
unique per (from, slug); cascade on source purge, set-null on target
purge); migration.
- shared: `extractWikilinkSlugs(doc)` (distinct target slugs) and the
`BacklinkView` / `PhantomLinkView` read shapes.
- collab: the persistence hook (#35) now rewrites the source page's outgoing
links in the same transaction as the content cache — one row per distinct
wikilink slug, resolved to a page in the same pond (null = phantom).
- api: `GET /pages/:id/backlinks` (permission-filtered — wikilinks resolve
within a pond, so seeing the pond is the read right) and
`GET /ponds/:id/phantom-links` (missing targets grouped with their
referrers). Creating or renaming a page to a slug that pages already link
to resolves those phantom rows; because links store the target's id,
backlinks survive a later rename of the target's slug.
- tests: shared extraction unit test; collab persistence db test (store
writes resolved + phantom rows and rewrites the index); api LinksService
db test (backlinks, permission filter, phantom aggregation, create/rename
resolution, id-based backlinks survive target rename).

Introduce pond-scoped hierarchical labels as the foundation for M4 organization and, later, M5 label-scoped permissions. - shared: `labels.ts` with the label schemas/views and the pure tree helpers (buildLabelTree, collectSubtreeIds, collectAncestorIds, labelDepth, subtreeHeight). These are the single hierarchy walk the label API and the future permission resolver both build on (permissions.md: a grant on a label applies to all its descendants). - prisma: `Label` (self-referential parent_id, unique per (pond, parent, name), cascade to subtree) and `PageLabel` assignment table; migration. - api: `LabelsService` + controller. Tree endpoint returns the hierarchy in one call; create/rename/recolor/move/delete and page assign/unassign. Validation: cycle prevention on move, depth limit 6, unique name per (pond, parent) — enforced under a per-pond advisory lock so root-label uniqueness holds despite Postgres treating NULL parents as distinct. Delete cascades the subtree and requires `?force=true` when pages are assigned. Assignment rejects labels from a different pond. Access gated through InterimAccessService on the owning pond. - i18n: label error codes and the colour validation message (de + en). Version history is a core kickoff decision (ADR 0013). Snapshots are full, self-contained encoded Yjs states, so restore never depends on the update log and compaction (#40) cannot lose history. (The page_versions / page_pending_contributors tables and base schema landed a commit early, bundled into 3583a04; this commit completes #41.) - schema: page_versions gains created_by (editor of manual/pre-restore versions; null for automatic snapshots). shared: PageVersionView, CreateVersionInput, PageVersionTrigger. - collab: PostgresVersionStore tracks contributors per open doc (onChange), flushes them to the shared page_pending_contributors accumulator on store, creates an automatic snapshot on last-participant disconnect (only if something changed — no duplicate on a quick reconnect) and every 30 active-editing minutes. Contributors and snapshot are consumed atomically. - api: POST /pages/:id/versions creates a named version (write permission, label + creator, snapshot reconstructed from persisted state, consumes the same contributor accumulator). Daily version-thinning scheduler job keeps all versions for 90 days, then the newest auto snapshot per day; manual and pre-restore versions are never thinned. pre_restore trigger reserved for #42. Tests: collab (one auto version on session end with the full two-author contributor set, none when unchanged, no duplicate on reconnect, interval snapshot); api (named version stores label+creator, contributor set consumed, non-owner refused, thinning time-travel keeps newest-per-day beyond window). Update logs grow with every edit; compaction bounds storage and load time. - prisma: `collab_open_sessions` table (page_id, heartbeat_at) — the live-session registry that lets the compaction job avoid pages being edited, decoupled from collab (no api↔collab network call) and self- healing (a crashed collab's rows age out of the freshness window). - collab: `PostgresSessionRegistry` marks a page open on document load and closed on unload, and refreshes an every-30s heartbeat for all open docs; wired into the server hooks and started/stopped in index.ts. - api: `CompactionService` runs hourly via the shared scheduler (#31). For pages with > 500 log rows and no fresh session it merges `page_updates` into `ydoc_state` and deletes the merged rows in one FOR UPDATE transaction — atomic, so a mid-run crash leaves the page untouched and the next run resumes. Content is unchanged (merged state = base + all updates), so the content cache is left as-is; updated_at is deliberately not bumped. Metric log line with pages compacted / rows / bytes removed. Tests: DB-backed compaction test (content hash unchanged, below-threshold skipped, active session skipped then picked up next run, stale heartbeat ignored, idempotent); session-registry DB test (open/close, heartbeat refresh). Backend: a generic maintenance-job scheduler (SchedulerService, `jobs` table) that any later maintenance job registers with instead of growing its own timer loop. Due-ness and the run-mutex both live in the DB row (`lastRunAt` survives a restart; claiming a due job is one atomic `UPDATE ... WHERE status != 'RUNNING'`), and an injectable ClockService lets tests simulate retention elapsing without waiting or faking the global clock. Trash endpoints: GET /ponds/:id/trash (list), POST /pages/:id/restore, DELETE /pages/:id/purge (manual, bypasses retention) — all sharing the same purge logic as the scheduled daily job (default 30-day retention, new trash.retentionDays instance setting). Purging deletes a page's content cache, update log, and attachment files/quota; page_versions is a placeholder until M3 exists. Direct navigation to a trashed page now 404s with a distinguishable `page_trashed` code for editors (a plain 404 for everyone else) instead of the generic not-found. Attachment.pageId — added in #27 but never wired up — now gets set on every page state save to whichever page's document currently embeds the file, which is what lets purge find a page's files. Frontend: a per-pond trash view (restore/purge), a "move to trash" action with confirmation in the page menu, and a trash link in the sidebar for pond owners. Also fixes react-query retrying 4xx responses for several seconds by default, which was masking the trash-hint 404 in the UI (and would have affected any other not-found/permission error the same way). Implements the FileStorage abstraction (uploads/<pondId>/<fileId> on the mounted volume), the attachments model, and POST /ponds/:id/files, GET /media/:fileId, DELETE /files/:id. Prisma models `pages`/`page_updates`/`page_content_cache` per data-model.md. Endpoints: POST /ponds/:id/pages (title -> empty Yjs doc state, seeded via y-prosemirror), GET /pages/:id (meta + base64 state), PUT /pages/:id/state (client-encoded Yjs state, rejected above the 5 MiB operations.md limit or if it doesn't decode into a valid document for the schema), PATCH /pages/:id (title/slug — explicit slug changes validate uniqueness per pond, title-only renames keep the slug), DELETE (soft). Access follows InterimAccessService via the page's pond, same 404-not-403 interim rule as ponds. State saves decode the Yjs update with yjs + y-prosemirror and run it through the #24 shared derivation functions (docToPlainText/ docToMarkdown/docToHtml/extractOutline) to refresh page_content_cache. The Yjs XmlFragment name ("default") and the derivation call are factored so the collab server's persistence hooks (#35) can reuse both. Raised the API's JSON body limit to 8 MiB (main.ts and the e2e test app) to fit base64-encoded page state. Closes #23 |

Add account/session endpoints and typed instance settings with admin API
Server halves of #17/#18/#19: PATCH /users/me and change-password (verifies the current password, logs out every other session), GET/DELETE /users/me/sessions with current-session flag and protection against revoking oneself; InstanceSettingsService as a typed, cached, Zod-validated registry over instance_settings (schema-default fallback for invalid stored values, audit-logged writes) consumed by the signup flow; /admin/settings behind the new SiteAdminGuard with strict unknown-key rejection. SessionsService moves to its own module to keep Auth/Users acyclic. Three new e2e suites bring the api to 42 tests. Part of #17, #18, #19 Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Add authentication: signup, verification, sessions, password reset
AuthModule implements the M1 core as one coherent unit: Signup (#13): POST signup/verify-email/resend-verification with shared Zod validation (field-level error details), double opt-in via hashed single-use tokens (24h, superseding reissue), registration_mode enforcement, and per-IP rate limits. Sessions (#14): opaque 32-byte cookie tokens stored as SHA-256 row ids, sliding 30-day expiry (refresh at most hourly), global AuthGuard with @Public() opt-out attaching the user to every request, CSRF origin check on mutating requests, per-account login backoff (5/15min, reset on success), generic 401 for wrong-vs-unknown credentials, logout with immediate invalidation, GET /auth/me. Reset (#15): forgot-password without account enumeration, one-hour single-use tokens, reset destroys all existing sessions. A 14-case supertest e2e suite drives every flow against the test database, reading verification/reset links from the mail outbox. Add mail outbox with SMTP delivery worker and templates
MailService renders transactional mails (verify-email, reset-password) from the new de/en `mails` i18n namespace — text plus minimal HTML with escaped interpolation — and enqueues them into mail_outbox. MailWorker delivers pending rows every 15s through an injectable transport (nodemailer; faked in tests) with quadratic backoff and a permanent FAILED state after five attempts, logged as a warning. SMTP_* and APP_BASE_URL join the environment schema with defaults matching the new Mailpit container in the dev overlay. Closes #12 Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Add DB-backed rate limiting with guard and decorator
RateLimitService implements fixed-window counters as one atomic
PostgreSQL upsert (race-safe under concurrency, proven by test), with
opportunistic sweeping of expired windows and an explicit reset for
successful-login scenarios. The global RateLimitGuard applies
@RateLimit({scope, limit, windowSeconds}) per client IP and answers
429 with Retry-After; main.ts trusts the single Caddy hop so req.ip
is the real client.

Add user, identity, session, and auth-support data model
Prisma models per data-model.md: users (status enum, site-admin flag), user_identities (password provider now, OIDC later — subject is the stable user id), sessions (hashed ids), auth_tokens (hashed, single- use), plus rate_limits and mail_outbox for the upcoming M1 stories. UsersService creates accounts transactionally with Argon2id-hashed password identities (OWASP parameters, rehash detection) and maps uniqueness violations to field-level conflicts. Database-backed suites run when TEST_DATABASE_URL is set — locally against the dev db, in CI via a new postgres service container; shared auth schemas (username, password policy incl. common-password blocklist) ship with tests. Add Prisma with PostgreSQL, automatic migrations, and /readyz
apps/api gains Prisma (instance_settings as the first model) with the initial migration applied automatically at startup via prisma migrate deploy, a lazy-connecting PrismaService, and GET /api/v1/readyz reporting named checks (database reachable, migrations applied) with 200/503. DATABASE_URL joins the validated environment schema; MIGRATE_ON_START=false skips deploys for tests and tooling. An idempotent seed script and a Compose dev overlay with PostgreSQL (host port 5434 — 5433 is taken locally) complete the loop. Closes #3 Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

Add NestJS API skeleton with config, logging, and /healthz
apps/api boots a NestJS application with: Zod-validated environment configuration (schema in @dorfteich/shared, fails fast listing every invalid variable), structured pino request logging via nestjs-pino (pretty in development, JSON otherwise, auth headers redacted), a global exception filter producing the uniform ApiErrorBody shape, and GET /api/v1/healthz. Vitest runs Nest through SWC for decorator metadata; supertest covers healthz and the 404 error shape. Closes #2 Co-Authored-By: Claude Fable 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |
